Throughout the course you will be working on individual assignments but that doesn't mean that you can't talk through work and ideas with your classmates, and we certainly don't want you to go through the year without getting to know one another. So, during induction we want you to get talking!
It is really important that you make contributions to class discussions and feel confident enough to answer questions, therefore, we want to do some confidence-building tasks during induction to help you with team work and peer and group discussions. You will also get the chance to complete some independent activities and to dabble with technology too.
To begin with, we are going to do some peer and group discussion. Firstly you will consider each of the statements below and form a personal opinion on each, then you will pair up and share your responses before joining another pair and having a discussion / debate. Aside from getting to know each other, the most important bit of this task is to be able to back up your response and argue 'why'.
1 = do not agree
10 = completely agree
1. I use media every day
2. Violent video games make people violent
3. The news in the UK is really honest and always tells the truth
4. I am influenced by the media
5. I spend too much time using media products
6. I have made or have helped to make a media product
7. I can spot fake news
8. Media (games and video production) is an easy subject to study
9. There are no career opportunities in the creative media industries
10. Advertising does not work on me.
